AAVE is associated with ecosystem governance, including decisions about supported assets, risk parameters and protocol evolution.
The essentials
AAVE is associated with ecosystem governance, including decisions about supported assets, risk parameters and protocol evolution. Holding AAVE does not mean that its owner supplied assets to a lending reserve. aTokens account for supplied positions; the underlying tokens are the assets supplied or borrowed.
How it works
Deficit-protection arrangements evolve. An older description should not be treated as proof that every position is insured. Any protection depends on eligible assets, available resources and triggering conditions. Governance processes and upgrade powers introduce further dependencies.
What to watch
Contract flaws, delayed prices, scarce liquidity, collateral depegs and network congestion can combine. A position that was healthy when opened can become fragile later. Monitor the debt and relevant parameters as well as yield. The explanations here describe educational mechanics, not personalised borrowing or investment recommendations.
Understand the details
Governance can influence parameters, asset listings and protocol changes through defined procedures. Discussing a proposal, passing a vote and executing a change are separate stages. Delegation can let another participant exercise voting power without implying that they own the delegator’s entire wallet. The exact powers follow the governance contracts and process.
Boundaries and common mistakes
Token ownership is not equivalent to insured lending deposits or an equity claim on all service revenue. Administrative powers, emergency roles and execution delays should be mapped separately. An approved parameter change can alter existing users’ risk, so monitoring governance is relevant even to users who do not vote.

Apply the lesson to a case
A fictional proposal lowers a collateral threshold. List the decision stages and the information a borrower needs before execution. Compare the position’s health factor under the old and proposed settings without assuming the proposal is already active.
Execution may still be pending, delayed or unsuccessful, and the proposal may target a particular market. Verify the executed transaction and current configuration. A governance forum announcement is useful context, but should not replace checking the state that actually governs the user’s position.
